Tim McGraw and Faith Hillâs single, âSpeak to a Girl,â earned a CMA Awards nomination for Musical Event of the Year when the nominations were revealed yesterday (Sept. 4).
The coupleâs back-and-forth duet tackles the topic of the proper way a man should speak to a woman. While the tuneâs heavy subject matter resonated with fans to become a Top 20 hit, itâs got some stiff competition at the CMA Awards if itâs going to take home the trophyâbut the outcome wonât affect how Tim and Faith feel about the âspecialâ song.
âItâs one of our favorite songs that weâve ever done,â Tim told Nash Country Daily earlier this year. âItâs just a really special, special song. I think it says so much. When songs can be timely and really move you and really have a message, then you know that you have something special. I think that this song really is a special song. Itâs special for us, having three daughtersâme being a husband and Faith being a mom of three daughters and growing up in a world of all women like I did, I think itâs just a really special song.â
âIt kind of gives you a landscape of how to speak to a girl, and what the important parts of language are when it comes to communicating with one anotherâwith a woman,â Faith said. âItâs about truth and honesty and respect. The biggest one being respect.â
Written by Shy Carter, Dave Gibson and Joe Spargur, âSpeak to a Girlâ peaked at No. 19 on Billboardâs Country Airplay chart. Tim and Faith performed the song live for the first time at the ACM Awards in April.
