Lee Briceâs âOne of Them Girlsâ is No. 2 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for the second straight week as Luke Combsâ âLovinâ On Youâ continues its four-week reign atop the chart.
The tune follows Leeâs No. 1 single, âRumors,â which topped the charts in July 2019, and his collaboration with Carly Pearce, âI Hope Youâre Happy Now,â which peaked at No. 1 earlier this year.
Penned by Lee, Ashley Gorley, Dallas Davidson and Ben Johnson, âOne of Them Girlsâ is the lead single to Leeâs upcoming sixth studio album, Hey World, which drops on Nov. 20. Lee was inspired to write âOne of Them Girlsâ after a moment of reflection with his family on Fatherâs Day in 2019. Lee penned the song the following morning with Ashley, Dallas and Ben, but he wasnât sure the song would be well received due to the possible negative connotation of the title.
As Lee told Kix Brooks of American Country Countdown, he presented the song to the judgeâhis wife of seven years, Sara.
âI mean, as I wrote it, I was like, âOkay, I think this is really good, but Iâve gotta check,â because itâs one of those things, like, as a guy, you could say this and go, âOne of them girls, are you one of them girls?ââ says Lee. âIâm like, âI donât know if a girlâs gonna like that or not.â So, I played it for my wifeâsheâs always the best judge of that stuff. I was like, âDoes this appeal to you as a female?â Sheâs like, âAbsolutely! Weâre all one of them girls.ââ
Sara agreed with Leeâs initial sentiment: âItâs so very much about that girl that all of usâdeep down, at the end of the day, at the end of our livesâreally hope to have loving us,â says Lee.
