Keith Urban released his new studio album, The Speed of Now: Part 1, on Sept. 18.
While the idea for the albumâs title came to Keith in October 2019, many of the tunes on the 16-song project were created in 2020 when Keith immersed himself in music during his self-quarantine. Keithâs time at homeâwhere he has a studioâallowed him to create new songs such as âOut the Cage,â âSay Something,â âSoul Food,â âLive Withâ and more.
As Keith told Kix Brooks of American Country Countdown, there were âso many skillsâ like cooking or a new langue he could have learned during his time at home, but he was focused on making a record.
âI look back to like February, March, and Iâm like there are so many things I could have done, so many skills I could have learned in [laughing] that time, and I didnât do any of them,â says Keith to Kix. âYou know, I was like, âI could have learned a language or something. What the heck?â You know? I really wish I was a better cook. Like, I canât cook, and I could have taken cooking classes or something in that period, just something, you know, but was I was too busy making a record [laughing], which was a fine use of my time in the end anyway. But, yeah, I just sort of dove into the studio. Luckily, Iâve got a studio at the house, and I just hunkered down in there and got to finishing out the record. And, because of that time, songs like âOut the Cage,â and âSay Something,â âSoul Food,â âLive Withââall these songs came through that period.â
Keith still has plenty of time to learn to cookâŠwe think he made the right decision.
